Rocky Marciano trained for the Louis fight at Grossinger's. Ali came up to Kutsher's. For sixty years the Borscht Belt hotels of Sullivan County ran full training camps between the dining room and the pool, and the sportswriters drove up from New York to watch.

The hotels are gone now — burned, bulldozed or left to the weeds. Told in twelve rounds across 54 minutes, from Barney Ross and James Braddock through Liston, Frazier and Tyson, with the fighters, writers and historians who were there.

In 2006 Liza Grossman walked a youth orchestra onto the stage at Blossom Music Center to back Styx. Nobody had really done it before. It is now a standard bill at amphitheatres everywhere.

The film tracks down the kids who played that night. Some are working musicians. One runs the stroke department at a major hospital. Built from the 2006 concert footage, the 2016 special Sing for the Day, and new sessions where the current students cut "Blue Collar Man" and "Build and Destroy."

In 1961 Rabbi Israel Dresner sat down at a segregated airport lunch counter in Tallahassee and asked to be served. He was arrested for unlawful assembly, one of ten clergy on the first Interfaith Freedom Ride. The case went to the Supreme Court under his name.

He was arrested again at St. Augustine in 1964, with sixteen other rabbis — still the largest mass arrest of rabbis in American history — and went to Selma after the march was attacked. King wrote to him, and the letters survive. Dresner sat for interviews at 92, and died before the film was finished.

Who we are

Evan Haiman

Evan Haiman started at Major League Baseball and spent thirty years in television — HBO, The Comedy Channel, Warner Bros., seven years running production and programming at AXS TV, then content at Circle from launch. Somewhere in there he shot Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis playing Ray Charles, and put Sammy Hagar in a car for four seasons.

He started Baker Street to make documentaries instead. Two are finished. Three are shooting.

He lives near the Catskills, which is how the first one started.
